Over 300 guests turned up for the Private View, and the exhibition received great international media attention, being featured on Al Jazeera, BBC, Financial Times, Guardian, British Satellite News and The Times, amongst others.

Tahereh Samadi Tari at Volta NY

Iranian born artist Tahereh Samadi Tari held her first solo show at Volta NY Art Fair, from 5 to 8 March 2009. This year's show, entitled Age of Anxiety, focused on areas currently underexposed by the art world (Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America), while also identifying trends that point towards newly critical aspects of emerging art. The show’s title—taken from W.H. Auden’s 1948 poem of the same name—suggests reexamination as well as imaginative departures that herald new beginnings.

Nothing New

A wearable 'Heech' by Parviz Tanavoli Maxine_Smith_Pascale_Bonivardi_Parviz_Tanavoli_Shirin_Guild_Lily_Hortensia_Samassa_Fariba_Farshad_1.jpg

Parviz Tanavoli's jewellery, exclusive to Candlestar, was launched at Sotheby’s preview of their Modern and Contemporary Arab and Iranian Art sale on 22nd October. Models dressed by the acclaimed Iranian designer, Shirin Guild, wore items of Tanavoli’s jewellery whilst circulating amongst the crowd, who were enjoying traditional Persian music and refreshments. As many of the works are inspired by Tanavoli's iconic Heech sculptures, it was fantastic to view them amongst the his lots, highlighting the fact that they are wearable sculptures rather than conventional jewellery items. Each piece has an edition of twenty and is handmade by Tanavoli.
